Strategies Toward Acceptance, Reintegration and Transformation for Poor Recovering Drug Dependent (START)
START is a community-based aftercare intervention for recovering drug dependents (RDDs) that have completed primary residential or outpatient rehabilitation programs in both government and non-government facilities. The project was developed in compliance to RA 9165 which requires the rehabilitated drug dependent to undergo after care and follow-up treatment. It primarily aims to contribute to the effective reintegration and transformation of recovering drug dependents as self-reliant and socially responsible members of the society.
OBJECTIVES
- Ensure bio-psychosocial, economic, moral and spiritual development of recovering drug dependents
- Organize and mobilize families and community members along support for discharged RDDs as well as individuals and families-at-risk
- Promote inter-agency partnership for resource augmentation, local policies and coordination of efforts
COMPONENTS
- Service Delivery
Provision of services such as psychosocial interventions, financial assistance, capability building, skills training, and referral services to RDDs and their families - Advocacy
Raising the awareness of the people in the community on the ill-effects of drug abuse and in removing social stigma on RDDs - Organization of Support Groups
Formation and training of peer, family and community members to ensure successful reintegration of RDDs - Establishment of Inter-Agency Mechanism
Identification and organization of different government, non- government agencies, academe and faith-based organizations with existing programs and services for RDDs and their families
